A woman has been arrested by South Yorkshire Police, marking a significant breakthrough after over eight years since the brutal murder of Tommy Ward. The pensioner was savagely beaten to death in his own home back on October 1, 2015, which had sparked an emergency response leading him to hospital.
The shocking scenes saw 80 year old Tommy with heart-breaking injuries across his face, neck, and chest that claimed his life in hospital months later, causing public outrage in 2015. The cause of death was linked directly to his assault wounds, as confirmed by the coroner.
Even in his final days, Tommy showed bravery, trying to assist police as he slipped in and out of consciousness, suggesting there were four individuals involved in the horrendous incident. Despite numerous arrests for suspicion of offences including murder, robbery, and aggravated burglary, no charges were ever brought forward.
Eight years since the ordeal took place, South Yorkshire Police disclosed they have made a fresh arrest. In a formal statement, a representative from South Yorkshire Police confirmed: “A woman has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Tommy Ward.

“On Thursday, 1 October 2015, emergency services were called to Tommy’s house in Salisbury Road, Maltby. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. A safety deposit box containing around £30,000 in cash was also reportedly taken from the 80-year-old’s home during the incident.
“Sadly, Tommy died several months later on Tuesday, 23 February 2016. It was determined that he died as a result of the injuries he suffered during an assault. A murder investigation was launched, and ten men and one women were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences. All were later released with no further action.
“Today (19 August) a 36-year-old woman from Rotherham has been arrested on suspicion of murder.”
