Algeciras Railway Station, located in the city of Algeciras in the province of Cádiz, Spain, is a key transport hub in southern Spain that holds the distinction of being the southernmost railway station on the European mainland.

Algeciras is a port city on the Bay of Gibraltar, facing the Strait of Gibraltar, with views of the nearby African coast. The station itself is a gateway for travellers heading to or from North Africa, especially for those catching ferries to Morocco.

Algeciras is the terminus of the railway line that runs through Ronda and Bobadilla, connecting it to Madrid and other major Spanish cities.

The route to Ronda is particularly scenic, with the train passing through mountain ranges and offering stunning views of southern Spain’s rugged landscape.

The station offers both regional and long-distance train services. The most important route is the line to Madrid, serviced by Renfe, Spain’s national train operator.

While not a high-speed rail line (as in other parts of Spain), the trains to and from Algeciras are comfortable and offer stunning vistas of the Andalusian countryside.

The Algeciras–Bobadilla line was completed in the 19th century, playing a crucial role in connecting the port of Algeciras with the interior of Spain.

Algeciras itself, due to its strategic location, has long been a point of entry for trade and military movements between Europe and Africa.

Algeciras is not far from tourist destinations like Gibraltar, Tarifa (a hotspot for windsurfing), and the Sierra de Grazalema mountains.

Many travellers use the station as a transit point on their way to explore the natural beauty and rich culture of Andalusia.

There have been talks about modernising and upgrading the line to Algeciras, as part of broader plans to improve infrastructure in southern Spain. This would further enhance its importance as a connection between Europe and Africa.

Elsewhere, the northernmost train station in Europe is Narvik, Norway, the easternmost station is Kars and Akyaka in Turkey, and the westernmost is Cascais, Portugal.
